TELL US ABOUT YOUR BLOG. WHEN DID YOU START IT AND WHY?
MomTraNeur.com was born in July 2016. I’ve already been a new mother for 8 months at that time, and somehow I can no longer relate to my old blog’s persona as the Sexy Nomad (sexynomad.com which I reverted back to sexynomad.blogspot.com) because my world was already revolving around my infant son. I couldn’t just up and leave whenever I want. My son was my top priority and together with my guy best friend/life partner, we ended up traveling constantly with my son while also working online (I’ve been a digital nomad since 2008). My old blog was also coined by my ex-husband and I wanted to let go of everything about him as I’ve also already started the process of my annulment February of that same year. So I thought why not come up with a new blog name on a different platform (WordPress this time as all my old blogs were under Blogger), something that will describe who I am now — a mother, a traveler, and an entrepreneur. That’s when MomTraNeur was born.
I’m a diarist since I was a little girl. I’ve always loved to write about my life. I pretty much inspire myself most of the time. I seem to not run out of topics to talk about because I have varied interests and my life is full of ups and downs. Writing about everything I do and things I get myself involve in is pretty cathartic for me. Also, as a psychology graduate who wants to heal myself mentally and emotionally, blogging serves as a way for me to sift through my thoughts and emotions, process everything and help myself have a better mental state. I didn’t know then that people would start reading my blog/s and get inspired by the things that I do.
I must admit that I don’t get to have the time to read other people’s blogs that much. I’m such a workaholic (I take care of 4-5 foreign clients at a time in my VA business), I’m a full-time mom, an all-around homemaker and I prefer to read my self-help books for inspiration when I have that extra time (which is usually in the bathroom or first thing in the morning during breakfast). And when I do get to have more extra time than that, I open Marie Forleo’s emails which lead me to her blog marieforleo.com. A few other blogs I get to read also are from my clients — confidentmarketer.com, varecipes.com, and changetheworldmarketing.
Reading novels, self-help books, and comic books
Making beaded accessories
Making organic soaps
Playing the guitar
Just spending time with my family doing whatever.
I co-own a farm, Tuscany Highlands Farm, with my life partner here in Northern Mindanao. I also take care of my VA business.
After I do all my work, wherever I may be. Sometimes at home, sometimes at the farm, on the beach, sometimes in a hotel room. It depends on where I am currently working.
Blogging, for me, is still my online diary. It’s always been my diary… a repository of my thoughts, views, opinions, and experiences.
I blog! I play my guitar! I sing! I cook! I do any of my hobbies that I feel like doing at the moment of my outburst.
My second blog post, the one about my love story with my guy best friend is my most favorite - https://momtraneur.com/2016/
You see, I’ve been married for so long before (2002-2012) and it crumbled in 2013. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I will find love again. I never dated. My ex was my first and last. I never had any other sexual encounters aside from my ex. Despite my being “Sexy Nomad” at that time, I really am a naive and conservative girl deep down. Everything that happened after, with my now current lfe partner, is nothing but miraculous. And the more I look back how it all came to be, the more I cherish our love and the life we have now. So, I love reading that blog post of mine from time to time. <3
According to statistics, it’s mostly my travel posts, particularly How to Get to Siargao from Cagayan de Oro via Bus and Boat Rides, and Boracay 2019 - What's New? Here are the Dos' and Don'ts, Updated List of Authorized and Accredited Hotels, Government Fees, and More! I really write detailed travel posts that are very helpful to my readers and to anyone searching for related information online. I should really write more travel posts! I got a ton still in draft mode!
But there’s another one that’s always in the top 1-3 as well - Black Pearl, Jericho, Marissa Del Mar Wellness Package - Initial Review, which is the most commented one because so many ladies have been “scammed” into buying super expensive Black Pearl products, myself included (I must have spent about half a million pesos purchasing those products), and that blog post of mine served as their venue for communication.
Personally, and the reason why I also am not inclined to read blogs these days, is because they’ve become so commercialized. It’s a way of making a living now. I rarely find authentic blogs these days, and when I say “authentic”, I mean people who write not for the sake of making a living out of it but to share their life. The last time I did a blog hop, everyone’s promoting something, it’s like watching one commercial after another. I understand that it’s the trend nowadays, that because people are mostly online, then brands and companies will reach out to their target market via blog posts and social media. And I get that. I am for that. I am part of CDO Bloggers Group and we get invited to attend events that we can promote on our blog (although that’s non-profit). But sometimes, it just gets too much, too advertisy if there is such a term, or too “showbiz”, lol! The persona behind the blog usually gets lost and all I see are ads and promotions and that part, I personally do not like. I would still prefer to read bloggers who are diarists like me. I’m just not sure nor have I checked if there are still bloggers like me these days especially since everyone can already make a diary out of their social media posts. Blogging has really changed these days.
Just follow your heart. Follow your passion. Just be yourself. Blog every day. Be genuine. Do what you want about your blog and let your persona shine. Even if you want to earn a living from it, don’t get lost in the thick of things. It’s your heart and integrity that people will follow, not the things you promote.
More power to Blogmeter! It really is my pleasure and honor to have participated in this interview. Good luck in your future endeavors and may your mission and vision go far and wide!
